Originally being founded in Decatur and later moving to Chicago, the Bears are members of the NFC North in the NFL. AS well as the Arizona Cardinals, the Bears are one of the only active franchises since the NFL was founded in 1920. Originally established as the Decatur Staleys in 1919, the team was originally supposed to be a company team since it was founded by the AE Staley Company. In 1921, they moved to Chicago and became the Chicago Staleys. It wasn't until 1922 that they became the Chicago Bears that we know them as today. Taking after the colors of the University of Illinois, the Bears' team colors are burnt orange, navy blue, and white. They played at Wrigley Field from their joining of the NFL in 1920 up until 1971 where they had Soldier Field built for them. It underwent construction and a new look and they have been playing their since its opening in 2003. Even though the Bears have only won one Super Bowl championship, they have remained successful in their division with 18 Division titles, nine League championships, and 25 playoff appearances. Aside from their talent on the field, the Chicago Bears also hold the record for having the most inductees in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, having a total of 32 inductees and 27 members.
In 2004, Lovie Smith was hired as the Chicago Bears head coach. With Smith in charge of the team, he was able to take his team to the playoffs a year later in 2005, making it the first time in four years that they were able to do so. Their success continued with their first win in a playoff game in 2006 , making a trip to the Super Bowl, their last appearance being in 1995. Following their victorious years with Smith, the franchise extended Smith's contract into 2011 as they continued to have winning seasons. In 2013, Marc Trestman was chosen as head coach to succeed Smith for the upcoming seasons. In 2009, the Bears made one of their biggest trades by getting quarterback Jay Cutler in exchange for Kyle Orton. With this trade, the Bears went on with a Division championship in the NFC North as well as a playoff appearance in 2010. They started their 2011 season with a record of 7-3 until Cutler was injured and they ended their season with a record of 8-8. The Chicago Bears have had one of the longest-lasting rivalries with the Green Bay Packers since 1921. Since they're both in the same division, the two teams play each other twice every season and both fight to win the Division title.
For the 2014 draft, the Bears main focus was to add more and strengthen their defensive line in which they did so with four out of their eight picks. In the first round, they chose cornerback Kyle Fuller from Virginia Tech. Many fans thought that with their first pick, the Bears would choose a safety but with a cornerback also in need, they went ahead and chose Fuller to fill the spot. In the second round they chose defensive tackle Ego Ferguson from LSU. To add on to the defense is Will Sutton from Arizona State and Brock Vereen from Minnesota. On the offensive side, the Bears acquired Ka'Deem Carey from Arizona, David Fales from San Jose State, Pat O'Donnell from Miami, and Charles Leno from Boise State. Feeling good about their new players, both the team and their fans are anxious for the fall season to begin as the Bears take on the Philadelphia Eagles in their first game of the preseason.
