Located in Detroit, Michigan, the Detroit Tigers are a MLB team founded in 1894 as a part of the Western League, in which they remain to be the only member of today. They are one of the American League's 8 charter franchises and are one of the oldest, one-city franchises in the League. Their current field is Comerica Park, located in downtown Detroit, which they've been playing in since 2000. Their team is represented by the colors navy blue, white, and orange alongside their logo of the letter “D” in old English writing. The Tigers have won a total of 4 World Series championships as well as the American League pennant 11 times, their most recent being in 2012. After their Series championship in 1945, the Tigers performance started to decrease for the next 10 years as they sank to the lower ranks of their League. The Tigers turned around their losing streak in 1968 when they won their third World Series championship. Unlike many other baseball teams, the Tigers don't have a single rivalry with another team; their rivalries seem to be changing throughout the years. Their big rivals are the Cleveland Indians, both of them in the same division, both teams battling to win the American League pennant.
With the Tigers winning the American League pennant in 2012 and the Red Sox winning it in 2013, the team is fighting back to get their title back. Even with new additions to the team such as Torii Hunter and Anibal Sanchez, they were still unable to defend their American League Pennant. But with these new and great additions, the team also faced many setbacks throughout their season. In August of 2013, Jhonny Peralta and 13 other players were suspended for 50 games for their ties to the Biogenesis clinic in Southern Florida. In the fall of 2013, the Tigers had many changes, one of which includes Brad Ausmus, who was a former catcher for the team, replacing Jim Leyland as manager. Leyland, however, is still remaining close to team as a special assistant to the general manager. In an attempt to improve their season, the Tigers signed on Ian Kinsler. Steve Lombardozzi, Ian Krol, and Robbie Ray. With the new season underway, the city of Detroit and its fans are eager for Opening Day and the new season to begin.
