The Cleveland Indians are a professional baseball team from Cleveland, Ohio and are also a part of the Central Division of Major League Baseball's American League. They became an official Major League franchise in 1901, however, the Cleveland team itself started in 1900 by the name of the Lake Shores, back when the American League was still a minor league. Their team colors consist of navy, red, and white and their logo is Chief Wahoo, a Native American cartoon caricature. Their logo adds to their nickname of The Wahoos as well as The Tribe. Before they became the Cleveland Indians that we know today, they had multiple name changes such as the Cleveland Bluebirds, Broncos, and Naps before becoming the Indians. Since their official joining of the Major League in 1901, the Cleveland Indians have brought home 2 World Series championships, their last being in 1948. They also have 7 American League Central titles, holding the title of having the most wins in their division. In their beginning seasons, the Indians played at League Park, followed by Cleveland Stadium when finally in 1994, they had Progressive Field built for them to become their home field. They won their first ever home game in 1901 against Milwaukee after previously losing to the Chicago White Stockings on their Opening Day.
Since the joining of the Chicago White Sox to the American League, there has been an on and off rivalry between the two teams as they both strive to be the best in their division. Being such a short distance away from Detroit, the Indians also have a rivalry with the Detroit Tigers as they both compete for the American League Central championship. With this heated competition going between the various teams, the fans hope to see the Indians bring in a better season than their previous years. The team finally started off strong in their 2011 season with former first baseman Mike Hargrove as special advisor however, even bigger news was on the way. In July of that year, the Indians traded four of their prospects for the pitcher from the Colorado Rockies, Ubaldo Jimenez. The 2013 offseason caused a huge turnover for the team. They had a very active offseason with trades and new acquisitions including Mike Aviles, C Yan Gomes, Jason Giambi, and their new starting pitcher, Scott Kazmir. The new Indians team was able to win by more than 24 from their 2012 season. They were able to make it all the way to the 2013 AL Wild Card game where the Tampa Bay Rays defeated them, 4-0. Slowly making their way up, both fans and team members are eager for the new season to start.
